Graduate advising
I see graduate advising as an opportunity to build a creative, collaborative relationship. To ensure it works well, it's important that we have some basic agreements in place.
I expect that the students I advise:
- Are familiar with and continually refer to the relevant program handbook and related policies
- Take responsibility for setting up meetings on my calendar at least once a month
- Come to meetings with a clear set of goals for our time
- Take all deadlines and explicit expectations seriously
In turn, I commit to:
- Working with you to craft a plan that meets your goals
- Being flexible to any emergent needs within the bounds of policy and pedagogy
- Assisting in identifying opportunities for funding and professional development
- Supporting you in a diverse range of career outcomes
Together, I hope that we can commit to being forthright with each other about disagreements and conflicts, wherever possible, before escalating them elsewhere.
