Waging Nonviolence

You might not believe it, but I’m now involved with yet another website. I never seem to be able to say no to a good thing. So if checking The Row Boat and Killing the Buddha all the time isn’t enough for you, here’s one more: wagingnonviolence.org.

Waging NonviolenceWhen I first arrived in New York, I had the wonderful fortune of meeting two guys, Eric Stoner and Bryan Farrell. It was at a home mass with a bunch of old Jesuits. Since Eric was the only other guest under, say, 40, everyone told me, “You should meet that guy. I bet you’d have a lot in common.” Turns out we did, and he soon introduced me to Bryan. Together, we share an interest in the intersection of religion and nonviolent political action. We’re also all freelance journalists, and it is in large part because of our little support group that I’ve survived as long as I have in this cowboy occupation.

A few weeks ago, Bryan, Eric, and I were sitting at our habitual Sunday evening dinner and the idea hit that we should start a blog. We all knew that there is really no one-stop shop on the web for news and commentary about nonviolence in today’s world. We also wanted to share the conversations we’ve been having for the last year with a wider community.

We’ve been writing posts for the last week and getting more and more excited about how it’s shaping up. Soon, we hope to have more contributors helping us out as well—the goal is to create a really one-of-a-kind resource for activists, scholars, students, thinkers, and the rest of us in search of a better way to solve pressing problems.

Please take a moment to stop by wagingnonviolence.org and take a look around. Keep checking back—remember that now is only the beginning.
